The Concept Of Missing Scripts
I have sat down, played it piece by piece but yet it refuses to make sense to me. Maybe it wasn’t supposed to make sense! A student read for an exam, entered the hall, signed an attendance and wrote an exam. Fast forward to Three months later, he/she is told that your script is missing!
What happened? Can I check it with the examination officer? These are the questions you are forbidden to ask. One rule about having a missing script in a public Nigerian university is that it is the fault of the student. So how dare you ask what happened!
The more I think about it, the crazier it appears. My school introduced Computer Based Test (CBT) examination type and what was supposed to be a relieve became the mirror of a failed educational system students are forced to endure. Because tell me how students still have missing results even when the exam was computer- based?
Probably, you ended up avoiding a resit or carryover associated with missing scripts but then another thing is waiting in your finals to shock you. How was it that my department called a number of us out and told us that some of our results could not be found because it was misplaced – which means we need to look for the results ourselves. That includes showing evidence that you passed the courses in question. That was the height of it guys!
I mean this is 21st century, who still keep data in pile of papers? What happened to the school database? What happened to uploading results on cloud? I have to sit down and go through hundreds of papers, some dating as back as 2015 to find a 2023 result. There’s no way to say it better; Nigerian educational system has failed it students and we are yet to see the light of development that has been broadcasted so far.
