Dating vs Situationships
Dating has now become more flexible but also confusing. One common result of this is the rise of “situationships”. The word situationship has become so common because a lot of people has chosen that path. A situationship is a romantic connection without a clear definition or commitment. We have had people share their experiences about being involved in an undefined relationship, and they tell how draining it can be for a person emotionally and sometimes physically. Some of them even tell how they began to have feelings for the other person in the process, meanwhile the other person does not want to be committed to them.
Two people may act like a couple, talking daily, spending time together, being emotionally or physically involved but without labels or future plans. This kind of relationship often happen because some people fear commitment and want emotional benefits without responsibility. This act may feel comfortable in the beginning, but it often leads to confusion, emotional attachment, and heartbreak, especially when expectations are not discussed.
Meanwhile Dating on the other hand, involves intentionality. People should be clear about their feelings, goals, and boundaries, as this helps both people understand where they stand. However, when dating lacks honesty, it could easily turn into a “situationship”.
The major difference between dating and situationships is “Clarity”. Dating often involves direction, while situationships often stay stuck in uncertainty.

In summary, it is advisable for people to be certain about their stand in any relationship, define your relationship before moving onto the next step in order to avoid being heartbroken. However, if you are presently in a situationship, it is advisable to be realistic about the potential for long-term commitment. If you’re hoping for something more, but the other person is not on the same page, now could be the time to move on so as to protect your feelings.
