The right path
I visited my family home and i had to run an errand in another part of town, when I was done, a sudden sense of nostalgia struck me. As a teenager, i had been to this part of town multiple times and figured out a shortcut i could take back home. As a teenager, I wanted to save every 100 naira or 200 naira, so in order to avoid taking a cab i would pass that shortcut.
So, I decided to test my memory and see if i could remember the shortcut to my house, note that i had used that shortcut hundreds of times but the last time I was here was over 5 years ago. My little plan worked for the first 10 minutes, I was already celebrating that I could still remember the way, then after a while a lot of buildings started to look familiar. The path i felt was the right way looked so unfamiliar so I decided not to take that route, after walking for a while I realized i was lost. I became very unsure of the next path to take and started to panic, i asked some passersby for directions but none of them knew the road i was looking for. I even tried to consult google maps but that did not work. I became agitated and realized how much of a bad idea this was.
Luckily for me, i saw a former church member who was surprised to see me in that area looking like a lost puppy, well i had to explain how i was feeling nostalgic and wanted to take a shortcut, he showed me the right road to take and led me to an area that was very close to my house. I realized that the path i was so unsure of was actually the right route, if only i had maintained my trust in my memory and didn’t allow fear make me over think I would have succeeded.
This experience made me realize that most times going with your gut may be the best idea. Over thinking and over analysis may just derail you from the right path and cause setback. That feeling when you are writing an exam, and you know option A is the answer but you become unsure and over think because option C or D seems more likely and then you end up choosing option C or D only to leave the exam hall and find out option A was actually the right answer.
Trust your gut.
