On My Travel Wishlist: The Destinations That Have Captured My Heart
Working in the travel space for nearly a year as the Project Manager for a logistics team, overseeing and being involved in the planning of trips to over fifteen countries, and speaking with people from different parts of the world, has really changed how I see the world. So, here’s my list, a mix of countries I’ve admired for years and some that simply won my heart.
Egypt: Before I ever worked in travel, I was already obsessed with Egypt. Maybe it’s from watching documentaries and reading about the pharaohs, but it has always felt magical to me. The pyramids, the Nile, and that ancient history never lose their charm. Seeing Egypt through the eyes of locals and travelers reminds me why it will always be a top pick for me.
Singapore: Okay, this might sound funny, but the major reason I want to visit Singapore is because of the airport. Yes, the airport. I’ve always believed a country’s airport says a lot about how the country runs, and Singapore’s Changi Airport is known as one of the best in the world. Beyond that, the country is stunning, very clean, and has beautiful places such as Gardens by the Bay, Sentosa Island, and more.
Ghana: Ghana is one of those countries that feels close to home (maybe because it’s a car ride away from Nigeria). My main reason for wanting to visit is the people, I worked remotely with a Ghana-based company in 2024, and everyone there was “cool.” The guides and receptionists I’ve spoken to have all been very friendly and accommodating. Beyond the people, the cities, from Accra to Aburi and Asokombo, are beautiful. Ghana is a gem that deserves more love.
Kenya: When people think of Safaris, one of the first places that comes to mind is Kenya, and for good reason. I’m not the kind of person who will necessarily sign up for a Safari first, but the rich history and culture of Kenya are what attract me most. Nairobi is a vibrant city full of life and innovation. The tech scene there is booming, which I find really inspiring.
France: We’ve all heard of “Paris Syndrome,” but honestly, France is more than just Paris. There’s the South of France, filled with vineyards, beaches, and peaceful countryside towns that look straight out of a movie. My reason for wanting to visit France is a bit personal, though. I want to see some of the real-life locations from one of my favorite shows. I’ve spent a decade watching it, so I think I’ve earned a trip to finally see those places in person!
Brazil: This one started with a book. I remember reading a scene set in Brazil where the characters were speaking Portuguese, and it made me curious enough to start learning the language on Duolingo. Now I know the basics, but that small moment made me fall in lovewith the idea of Brazil, its culture, language, and energy. Brazil is full of life, from Rio’s Carnival to the beaches, the music, and the food. People go there for the vibe, the color, and the celebration that seems to never end.
Japan: Japan is one of those countries that just feels fascinating from every angle. My interest started with its high-tech lifestyle, bullet trains, neon cities, and robots, but the more I learned, the more I appreciated how beautifully Japan balances tradition and modernity. There’s respect, precision, and calm in everything they do. From cherry blossoms to sushi bars, Japan seems like a place that leaves a lasting impression on everyone who visits.
Madagascar: Madagascar is probably the most underrated destination on my list. Not many people talk about it, but that’s exactly why I want to go. The wildlife, the rainforests, the beaches, it’s like a different world. Most of the plants and animals there can’t be found anywhere else on Earth, which makes it perfect for anyone who loves nature and discovery.
Switzerland: If there’s a country that looks like it was designed to make you stare in awe, it’s Switzerland. The scenery is breathtaking, with snow-capped mountains, crystal-clear lakes, and postcard-perfect towns. Add in the chocolate, cheese, and calm pace of life, and it’s basically a dream destination. I love Switzerland for its peace, beauty, and sense of order (also random, but I was gifted a T-shirt from someone who visited, and it was one of my best T-shirts).
United Arab Emirates: The UAE is the last on my list, and it’s one I’ve been lucky enough to visit twice. What amazes me is how far the country has come in such a short time. It’s futuristic but still rooted in its culture. From Dubai’s skyscrapers to Abu Dhabi’s heritage sites, the UAE blends history, innovation, and hospitality so well. It’s clean, safe, ambitious, and constantly evolving, a country that proves what’s possible when vision meets action
