2027: The year of selection
The 2023 general election was a major adulting moment for me because it was the first time I ever voted. I remember spending hours at the polling unit, waiting my turn. Even when it started raining, no one left, we were all soaked as there were few canopies and a lot of us but we didn't mind, it was obvious we were all so tired of how things were going in the country. We were all ready to make a change, and that shared hope for a change kept us standing in line.
However, the election did not turn out the way many of us had hoped. Now, with the next elections approaching in 2027, the atmosphere feels very different. Instead of the excitement and readiness we felt before, many Nigerians are feeling even more discouraged than before or is it still early to tell? will the readiness come later on as the election draws closer?
The struggle to survive and make ends meet has made a lot of people skeptical including me about whether our votes can truly change the daily reality. I really hope that this skepticism doesn’t make us relaxed and unmotivated to vote in the next election, because if we choose to sit on our hands, we may really be doomed
